"Midland society lady wears top boots while working on the land. When her gardener left her for the war, Lady Isobel Margesson of Barnt Green House, near Birmingham decided to do the work with the aid of her daughter. Work is started at 7.30 a.m. the goats, poultry and pigs are attended to, vegetables are got in, and the gardening work is proceeded with. Lady Margesson observed "It is impossible to work with the encumbrance of the skirts. I have leather boots which incidentally belong to my son, and over breeches, and thick top coat. Thus equipped I am proof against weather". Lady Margesson is a member of the Women's Sub-Comittee.
Lady Margesson is assisted in her work by two maids who wear clogs.
